Details. DSL, or Digital Subscriber Line, is an "always on" high-speed connection to the Internet. It is ideal for applications such as online gaming, videoconferencing (such as NetMeeting), and a range of other apps. Unlike dialup access, you don't have to wait to get connected, as your computer is always on the Net.

A few cautionary notes about DSL. Not everyone can get DSL; you're line must qualify. Generally this means that your home is within a certain distance from a Qwest "central office" (CO). Also, while it's nice to have a computer continuously hooked up to the Net, this increases the risk of an outside attacker probing or hacking your system. We recommend an external firewall (there are many cheap firewalls that allow you to share your DSL line with multiple computers).
