Dear Washington Voter,

The Washington Hemp Education Network (W.H.E.N.) is pleased to introduce this 1998 Washington Hemp Voter’s Guide. W.H.E.N. has polled all candidates to the Washington State Legislature, the State Supreme Court and U.S. Congress to determine their positions on cannabis hemp/marijuana for medical, industrial and personal adult use. Over 40% of the candidates responded. The results are included in this guide.

In conjunction with this guide, W.H.E.N. will be launching a a Get out the Vote! tour of Washington State the week before the September 15th primaries. This tour is planned to educate, organize and activate Washington citizens and register new voters.

This guide is provided to encourage communication between you and the candidates who seek to represent you. You have the right to know where they stand on these important issues. If a candidate in your district has not responded to this survey, we encourage you to use the contact information provided and conduct your own personal survey.

How to Use this Guide

  • Identify the candidate that will represent your district. See Who Represents You? for information on identifying your legislative and congressional district.
  • Understand the issues. Read the Hemp/Marijuana Information for an introduction.
  • Contact your candidates. Our recommendation to voters is to contact any candidate who did not respond or declined to respond to this survey. Ask the candidate the three survey questions and write their answer in your guide. Then take this guide with you as you go to vote on election day. The importance of contacting candidates should not be understated. By contacting them, you not only begin a dialog, but you let them know this is an issue they can no longer ignore.
